Paracombe Premium Perry is a small family-owned business in South Australia that produce fine handcrafted premium, Perry. Their products are fresh and use no concentrates. They pride themselves on the high quality of their products.
The brief was to redesign one of their products to attract a different target audience than their current one.

After looking at their brand I found that one of the things they like to highlight the most about their products was that they are handcrafted with quality. I thought I could find a way to illustrate this with a more youthful approach by using a technique that would give the design some texture. I decided to do some research and I landed on using lino printing to create an illustration or pattern because the ink would create a rustic texture that would help make the product look handcrafted.

To create a youthful approach I decided to change their glass bottles to cans. I thought this would appeal more to younger audiences and would allow the design to stand out a lot more in a can.

I drew two illustrations that had the original names of their ciders and carved them into lino and began testing with paper types to create the desired texture I was looking for. After I was happy with the texture the ink created I scanned them in a play around with colours. I decided to have green for the pear and red for the apple to help differentiate between flavours and to keep the colours for the original bottles.

I think the final designs have a more updated look and would easily appeal to a younger audience. The graphic is visually appealing and eye-catching so it would easily stand out. I also think the product positively represents their brand because it has a rustic texture but it still shows the quality and they can promote it more as a local product which is very well sought after especially by younger audiences. I think the text type compliments the illustration quite well making it look hand-drawn. The way the shapes are repeated and cropped adds a lot of movement to the design and it works quite well for a can.
