The brief was to design two spreads for a travel magazine that inform readers about tourist attractions in Barcelona. The spreads were aimed to promote the city as a great travel destination.

For the first spread, I decided to feature a picture by Marco Da Silva of a building in Catalonia. It is an amazing picture with an unusual angle so I thought it would be a great way to feature a very popular touristic destination and provide an introduction to Barcelona. I choose to use a serif typeface for the title that would go over the picture in white. It would! contrast very nicely against the dark areas of the picture and it would be bold enough for the reader to see. For the introduction, I used a white rectangle behind the text because I wanted the text to be black for easy reading. I placed the rectangle in the negative space part of the picture so didn't cover any part of the amazing building. This spread is well-balanced and thought out. The negative space is used to provide information but also to highlight the picture's focal point.

For the next spread, I brought the white rectangles overlapping certain parts of the illustrations for consistency. I used vibrant images because that is something very well-known about this city, the vibrancy of its buildings and culture. I continued to use the serif font for the titles of each paragraph overlapping against the pictures but not covering any important parts. This spread can seem a lot busier but the white rectangles make the reader rest their eyes and the contrast of the complexity of vibrant pictures against the simplicity of the white rectangles makes it visually balanced.
